One of Oxford's top chamber choirs, JUBILATE continues to carve out a distinctive niche in the city's crowded choral schene with imaginatively programmed and powerfully executed concerts, directed by Helen Smee. In recent years the choir's repertoire has encompassed a wide range of music from renaissance polyphony to the contemporary, via Eastern Orthodox sacred works, forgotten 19th century gems and more. With a continuing commitment to new music and accompanied by some of Oxford's finest professional musicians, the choir celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025
JUBILATE is a mixed-voice chamber choir of about 35 voices. We are mostly professional people living or working in Oxford who enjoy meeting regularly to sing choral music to a high standard. We are currently recruiting new members. If you would like an audition, do contact us with details of your voice part and experience.
We give three main concerts a year in and around Oxford, and have performed in all the main Oxford venues, including Keble College Chapel, The Church of St John the Evangelist, The University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Blackfriars Church, Merton College Chapel and Christ Church Cathedral.
We host occasional singing days, when we gather with friends of the choir to rehearse and perform a choral work in a local church. At a recent singing day we explored works by Byrd and his contemporaries, using music from the Dow Partbooks. With no bar lines, different clefs, and unfamiliar notations it was a challenge for all of us and a fascinating insight into the practice of both composers and singers of that period.
